A vegan and vegetarian guide to the Bazaar in Beverwijk | Getting around | The Food Court | Hal 30 - besides the food court | The Eastern Market | The Boulevard | The Randweg
Across from Café Klein Mokum, close to the entrances to Hal 04 and Hal 05, are several food stands. Among them are the following:
Afghan Bolani / Hawasana
Afghan, vegan options
Savoury Afghan pastries. Don’t be fooled by the “Vegan” sticker – the place is definitely not 100% vegan. Vegan options are bolani with potato and leek, bolani with spinach and leek, samosa with potato and vegetables.

Afghan Burger
Afghan, vegan option
The name of this stand may be pretty confusing, until you realize that Afghan burgers are nothing like what is typically called a “burger” in North America or Europe - see this post and this nice indie documentary. If you’re curious, you could probably ask for Afghan naan with fries and green chutney – arguably the precursor to the Afghan burger.
Another vegan options is the shor nakhod. This is a warm chickpea dish with grated potatoes on top, and a delicious green sauce with mint, coriander, hot peppers, vinegar and garlic on top. If you can, ask for as much sauce as possible, it’s definitely the best part. See also Afghan restaurants in the Food Court.

Falafel al Fiha
Syrian, 100% vegetarian, almost all vegan
One of the few 100% vegetarian restaurants in the Bazaar. Fries, falafel, fried aubergine and fried cauliflower, in a plate or in a flatbread roll. Typical doughnut-shape Syrian falafel. Although not on the menu, you can ask for falafel, aubergine, and cauliflower all in one (you will probably be charged extra for it). Salads include parsley, mint, fermented cucumbers and pink fermented turnips. Sauces include hot sauce and tahini. The hot sauce is great, the tahini possibly has some yoghurt in it – be sure to ask! The fried cauliflower is definitely the highlight of this place.

A large Surinamese restaurant on Buitenlanden. Vegan/vegetarian options include white rice (nasi) with vegetables, vegetarian roti, noodles (bami) with vegetables, broodje tempe, broodje kousenband, gado gado, petjel, bara, and bakkabana.
